Positive Behaviours

At Balwyn North Primary School, we focus on, reinforce, and celebrate the positive behaviours displayed by our students. By representing examples of these behaviours through the lenses of our school values—‘Strive, Inspire and Belong’—we ensure a culture of positive behaviours is embedded deeply within our community.

As educators, we know that children thrive in predictable spaces where expectations are clear, new skills are taught, mistakes are learnt from and understood through support, and positive behaviours are richly reinforced.

We encourage our students and community to reflect and celebrate some of the examples of positive behaviours we commonly find our students displaying by interacting with our wonderful digital poster.

Peaceful Kids

Peaceful Kids is a weekly small-group wellbeing program offered at Balwyn North Primary School. The program gives children the skills, practice, and support to utilise coping strategies that help build emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with life's day-to-day challenges. Throughout the 8-week program, children learn a range of mindfulness strategies and participate in a range of activities to help them understand their emotions. The program is also a great chance for children to connect with other peers and teachers.

For more information, visit the Peaceful Kids website.

Resilience Project

As an International Baccalaureate World School, we take pride in the attention and focus we place on ensuring our students' overall wellbeing and health. Since 2015, we have partnered with the Resilience Project program, which forms an integral part of our school-wide curriculum.

The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to thousands of schools across Australia, providing practical, evidence-based mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness in young minds. Our students use their Wellbeing Journals to complete frequent exercises, reflections, and activities that promote gratitude, empathy, and strategies for working with daily emotions. These journals are used alongside an array of mindfulness resources, such as guided meditations.

Please refer to the Resilience Project website for further information and resources, including their weekly newsletter.

Cyber safety

BNPS is an eSmart School

At Balwyn North Primary, we are committed to educating our students about appropriate and safe online behaviours, so they are better equipped to protect their own wellbeing. In class, children engage in regular cyber safety discussions and have the chance to experience the many educational opportunities that the Internet has to offer in a safe and supported manner. At Balwyn North Primary, we collect and review data on cyber safety concerns on a regular basis, to support our students to safely navigate the online world. A focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to create and use information in a perceptive, effective and creative way is of high value to us. We believe that explicitly teaching students about safe and responsible online behaviour is essential. Students use ICT as a routine part of classroom activities across the curriculum. As an eSmart school, Balwyn North Primary School will promote Cyber Safety within its community and in partnership with families.

Internet Safety Tip for Parents

Find out what your child is doing online. Talk to them regularly about what websites they visit and take the time sit with them as they use the internet. Make sure you’re familiar with how the sites that they visit work.
